Event title: STEP UP SPEAK OUT 2009: National MS Society Legislative Awareness Conference
Description/type of event (conference, monthly meeting, training, etc.): The National Multiple Sclerosis Society Arizona Chapter in partnership with Protecting Arizona's Families Coalition (PAFCO) invites people living with and affected by MS to participate in a 2-day Legislative Conference.

Day one: Beth Meyer (Vice President of State Operations for the Center for Progressive Leadership) will facilitate an interactive workshop to help activists identify their motivations for engaging in the legislative process. This session will help activists to develop a compelling message to share with legislators.

Day two: activists will meet with legislators at the Arizona Capitol to discuss the impact of budget decisions on the lives of people affected by MS, disability, and chronic illness. Activists will also have the opportunity to register for public testimony, witness legislative sessions/hearings, and be introduced in the House & Senate Gallery.

Scholarships are available to cover the cost of travel and one night of hotel stay in Phoenix for out-of-county MS constituents who commit to attending both days.
