Event title: Adjusting to a Disability As a Member of a Minority Group
Description/type of event (conference, monthly meeting, training, etc.): How a person who has a disability and is also a member of a minority group learns to cope with their abilities and limitations will be discussed at the free Faces of Diversity Brown Bag series noon Friday, Oct. 23, at Phoenix City Hall, 200 W. Washington St., assembly rooms A and B.Bob Williams, a leading human and disabilities rights activist; Barbara McDonald, president of the Arizona Council of the Blind; and Dan Martinez, Governor's Council on Blindness and Visual Impairment; will explore how people with the combination of disability, gender and ethnicity challenges formulate their personal and social roles, responsibilities and expectations in life. The presence or onset of a disability can be confusing as an individual struggles to re-assess his or her physical and social identity. The presenters will specifically discuss how people who are visually impaired handle this challenge.

The free series is sponsored by the Phoenix Human Relations Commission and the city's

Equal Opportunity Department. It features dynamic people telling their stories about diversity.
